Free Heating Oil Programs
Citizens Energy Oil Heat Program has delivered millions of gallons of discounted and free home heating oil to tens of thousands of low income and elderly households in numerous cold weather states since 1979. This unique assistance program helps protect lower income and needy families from escalating heating oil prices. The high fuel oil prices many times leave families having to decide between heating the home and paying for other life essentials, such as health care, food, or clothing.
Citizens Energy currently works with thousands of oil heat dealers as well as local fuel assistance agencies in 17 states. Combined these organizations provide deliveries of home heating oil to those in need. This year the Oil Heat Program will provide eligible families with a one-time delivery of 100 gallons of free home heating oil.
While the federal government does provide some heating bill help to lower income families that may be struggling to stay warm during the winter through the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), this federal assistance program reaches only about one in five needy families. The Citizens Oil Heat Program will help many more that do not qualify for federal aid.
The seventeen states that are included in this free heating oil program are Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, DC, Wisconsin.
