New Jersey Natural Gas offers its customers a few different programs that can be used to help with heating bills. Some of them are funded by the federal government, some by the state of energy, and some programs have been created by New Jersey Natural Gas. Find information on your options here.
New Jersey Natural Gas Gift of Warmth Fund - This was a fund that was established by New Jersey Natural Gas in order to to help customers who are facing a hardship, or are undergoing financial difficulties and who cannot afford to pay their home heating or energy bills. The Gift of Warmth fund will help low and moderate income-eligible households. In addition, there is also shorter term heating bill help available to those customers who are experiencing an unanticipated or temporary financial hardship. Each year New Jersey Natural Gas encourages families and individuals to apply for help. This heating bill assistance program is administered by the United Way through your local Community Action Program (CAP) agencies. New Jersey Statewide Heating Assistance and Referral for Energy Services (NJ SHARES) - This is another program that is run by your local community action agency. It is a statewide fund that will help both families and individuals who are in need of help by providing them with temporary financial assistance and cash grants that can be used to pay their heating and energy bills. It also focuses on those customers who have exhausted other forms of heating and energy assistance, including federal and state government programs. Income guidelines and thresholds apply. The assistance program is administered by local Community Action Program (CAP) agencies, non-profit organizations, charities, and other area agencies. New Jersey Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)/Universal Service Fund (USF)
This is a program that is funded by the federal government. The government Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides help for heating bills in the form of financial assistance. This program is administered by a combination of your local community action agency as well as the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
