Ameren customers in Illinois likely to have hikes of 20-30 percent on their heating bills
Ameren Illinois Utilities customers can look forward to paying much more to heat their homes this winter, Ameren Corp. officials warned Thursday.
Residential homeowners and customers can see their natural gas costs increase anywhere from 20 percent to 30 percent this winter. That's because the utility companies, which delivery energy to Illinois customers, will themselves pay more to get gas.
Ameren spokesman Neal Johnson has said that the increase would be for the natural gas portion of the utility bill alone, not for the overall heating bill.
"This represents an increase of about 20 to 30 percent over last year's heating bill season," Glaeser said.
