Help with Heating Bills in Massachusetts
Massachusetts utility companies provide over a dozen heating bill, gas, and electric bill assistance programs. The Massachusetts programs also provide utility rate discounts (that include help with heating bills) totaling over $40 million per year. Discounts provided will range from 20 percent to 45 percent of your bill.

Middleborough Gas and Electric Department - Provides a Senior Discount, which is an additional 5% discount. It is added to the 10% prompt payment heating bill discount when the heating bill is paid within 10 days and the account is current.
NSTAR - Offers the R2 Discount Rate which is a discount rate for customers who qualify for fuel assistance or who receive certain government benefits. In addition, the MassSAVE program is available, which involves energy efficiency specialists who will answer your energy-saving questions and determine your eligibility for a free Home Energy Assessment. Good Neighbor Energy Fund - The Good Neighbor Energy Fund assists those residents who are in need of help for paying their winter heating bills and other energy bills. This Fund is for those who are facing a short-term financial crisis and if they do not qualify for any government fuel assistance programs.
EnergyBucks - Massachusetts’ utility companies offer several programs that aid families paying their heating bills. The programs offered include fuel and heating oil assistance, energy saving services, and utility discount rates. Several of the state’s utility companies and assistance organizations have joined together, with the Low-Income Energy Affordability Network (LEAN) and the Massachusetts Association for Community Action (MASSCAP) to offer these programs.
