Heating Bill Help from National Grid
There are a few different programs available to National Grid customers to help them pay heating bills. They include those listed below.
The National Grid Neighborhood Heating Fund. This is an option that provides a one-time cash grant of up to $200 to HEAP-eligible National Grid customers. The assistance is focused on those people who need help paying their monthly heating and utility bills. If you apply and are found to be qualified for aid, funds can help pay heating bills. If order to be qualified customers must pay for their home heating bills, live in either 1-2 family dwelling or an apartment building, and also reside in Brooklyn, Queens, or Staten Island. National Grid advises not to solely rely on this program, and they encourage customers to simultaneously apply for help from both this grant and a HEAP grant, which is offered by the federal government.
Medical Crisis or Emergency. This option provides people with time. Specifically, it offers short-term financial relief to patients and the sick who are facing a medical emergency by allowing up to 30 days of additional time to pay heating, phone, gas, electric, utility or water bills. The patient with the emergency, or their caregiver must provide a letter from his/her physician to National Grid that includes the patient's diagnosis, provide the physician's license number, and the letter needs to explain why shutting off the service would be detrimental to his/her health.
